Rolling Thunder 2012 was no less eventful than any other year, except this year we were spectators instead of participants. My Dad's brand-spankin'-new UltraClassic had one of the recalled voltage regulators on it. The night before the ride, literally about 9:00 PM, he pulls up next to me at a stop light and says, "My bike isn't charging. The volt meter is registering 10 volts." Well, crap!
To make a long story short, I give kudos to the guys at Patriot HD in Fairfax, VA. They were open all Memorial Day weekend helping out-of-towners with broken down Harleys get back on the road. They put a brand new chrome voltage regulator on the bike and away we went. Who says chrome don't get ya home?!
It was actually nice watching the parade instead of riding in it. I love what Rolling Thunder stands for, and I support our troops 100%. I think the ride would be more impressionable if everyone rode in a more organization fashion once they leave the Pentagon parking lot. Constitution Avenue is not a drag strip. I think that everyone should be required to ride in parade fashion - slow, steady, deliberate. It would be a much more powerful statement.
By the way, I hear there are some photos of my Dad riding bitch floating around!
