SPECTACULAR! That's the best word to describe today. It started out when I left Sheridan, WY and saw the Big Horn Mountains from afar. Some peaks still have snow on them. I was so excited to ride through the national park that I forgot to dress for the occassion. Knowing that I was heading up into the mountains, I should have put the liners in my riding gear. I had to stop in Buffalo, WY and do just that because it was a bit chilly this morning.
Riding through the Big Horns there is some great scenery. I zig zagged through the park twice hoping to ride the best roads and snap some photos from the best vantage points. There is a really cool waterfall on Shell Creek that warrants a few photo opps. Little did I know that the day would only get better and better. The Big Horns, awesome in their own right, pail in comparison to what was to come.
Next, I rode up to Cody, WY where I caught the Chief Joseph Scenic Byway and was dazzled even further. Standing on the Sunlight Bridge you can see the Shoshone River about 300 feet below cutting a new canyon in the rock formations. There is an immense, snow-capped peak standing almost right in the path of the road. You think that you're going to ride up to the top of the peak, until you see a sign for Beartooth Highway, An All-American Road.
OMG! Beartooth Highway takes the cake. By far this is the most breathtakingly beautiful road in the USA that I have ever seen. It's so spectacular that I think everyone should drive it, ride it, bike it, walk it, whatever, just go there and see it for yourself.
