It rained on my way to Boston. It rained on my way to Acadia. It rained on the way to Madawaska. Omg, did it drop buckets of rain on my way into New Hampshire. I stopped in some town after encountering the biggest rain storm I've seen in awhile, and a lady asked me if I witnessed the hail. Really? Uh, noooo, but I just rode through the downpour that followed it. Point being, I've hit rain four days in a row. It's getting old.
There has been bouts of sunshine though. Two while on the road, and one in Boston. The two on the road occurred today. First, well after I left Lakeview Campground while heading south down Maine 11, Maine's scenic byway. Second, after riding through the storm that the lady said produced hail entering New Hampshire.
Maine 11 is a horrible route because of the road surface. Largely, it sucks - potholes, cracks, gravel, states of total disrepair, etc. It doesn't get nice until the last 20 miles north of Patten. Short of that 20 miles, I would totally skip it.
I did see my first Moose though! It appeared to have been wallowing in a roadside pool of water because for one it was standing in it, and two, it appeared wet and covered in fresh black mud. It was as large as I had imagined a moose to be - far taller than a horse with a considerably more narrow body yet lean and mean. In a second it covered quite a bit of ground as it darted back into the woods. It's legs were about five feet long.
Stopping briefIy in Bangor, I rode a bit out of the way to get my new phone. I'm skipping the details, but I have it. Now. Let's move on... to New Hampshire via US 2 west.
As soon as I crossed the state line, the clouds opened up, and the sun shown down upon some beautiful country. I camped at White Mountain National Forest. Guess what? As soon as I laid down for the night, it started pouring rain and a blustering thunderstorm ensued.
I'll upload pics later. Right now, I have to catch a train.
